Moodboard of Lottie Leremy made by @grace.pttx

Charlotte "Lottie" Leremy is a Player Character of Arc 6 and played by Haley. She is level 6.

Description[]

Lottie is a Variant Human College of Spirits Bard. Her entire body, skin, hair, and eyes are in greyscale, there is not a single bit of natural colour on her. Usually, her clothes are blue, because it fits her aesthetic.

Her spirits are the twelve ghosts that accompany her since her birth. They are barely ever visible, but she can summon them randomly, and they have various powers they can use. The ghosts can at all times touch Lottie, and there is one ghost in particular with very restless hands who is constantly doing and undoing Lottie's hair, leading to her hair seemingly moving on its own. She can talk to these ghosts, although usually the conversations are not very productive.

She is a bit odd, and perceived as weird by many people, who are often suspicious of or intimidated by the ghosts that surround her. She has found acceptance with her sky pirate crew that to her is like a family, Beryl in particular is like a mom to her.

Her relationship with death extends over her contact to ghosts. Lottie is experienced in mourning people, and usually tries to find something that she can carry on from them as their legacy. This legacy could for example be a spell they knew that she can learn, a song, or a story. Because of this close connection to death and the afterlife, she often gets things wrong about what other people do and do not consider morbid.

Lottie carries with her a magical candle in an old-timey brass candleholder. The candle cannot be extinguished, and she uses it for her seances and to cast her spells. Additionally, she has Goggles of Night that grant her darkvision, and a Quarterstaff of Warning that her ghosts can put into her hands when they sense danger. She also carries some precious stones, dreamlily, and a panflute.

Lottie's magic is also usually ghost-flavoured, and blue.

While the crew is travelling on their Eirden Airyc, Lottie usually sits cross-legged in the back and does "her own thing", which involves having séances and talking to her ghosts.

Backstory[]

Lottie was born a normal child, for exactly two seconds. But her first breath happened at the same moment as a solar eclipse, and in that moment, all colour was drained from her, and the twelve ghosts joined her. The ghosts helped and even kind of raised her. Sometimes, when she was a young child, they would even "puppeteer" her body.

There were rumours around her town that her parents had made some kind of deal, or maybe even betrayed someone, and that that might be the reason for her appearance, but she doesn't care. Her parents were loving, but always concerned about her, and unsure what to do with her.

She was a secluded child, and always kind of alone, something that carries on into her adulthood. People talked about her, and laughed at her.

She realise that it would be better for her and everyone else if she left the town when she was in her twenties, so she joined a crew of sky pirates who were not afraid of her, and has lived with them since, for about 3-4 years prior to Arc 6. It is implied that she hasn't had much or any contact to her birth family since then, as she says that people could say that her crew is her only family.

Character Arc[]

After Kipp's death in Episode 1, she clearly expresses to Remeny that while she is disappointed and believes that their situation is Remeny's fault, she still loves and cares about her.

While she tries to mourn Kipp and connect with their ghost to find something she can carry on as their legacy, she not only finds a song their mother used to play to them that she can pick up, but also, their ghost connects to her. She has been around dead people before, but never before has a ghost stayed with her and the other twelve ghosts. After that, she is accompanied by 13 ghosts, and the effect of the Tale of the Clever Animal has been replaced with the Tale of the Intern: when you roll a 1, at any time within the next ten minutes, you can cast a Twin Spell.

After encountering a Shelter Mimic, Lottie has a horrible acid burn scar that is as grey as everything else on her, and after encountering the Chomp Snow, a spindly, spiderweb like scar goes up from her legs across her chest and arms. As she sees this spiderweb scar, she turns invisible for a minute out of anger about it.

During their exploration through Mount Ornament, Lottie is hit with memories of being an outsider, being talked and laughed about, and the glances she got from both her parents and other people around her. Even when she is with her crew, she sometimes feels emotionally distant from them. These memories, at least for a moment, give her the feeling that the only thing that is always there for her are her ghosts.

Just shortly afterwards, Remeny accuses Beryl of mutiny, and they have an argument that escalates when Remeny attacks Beryl. This argument deeply affects Lottie, to whom Beryl is like a mother, and Remeny like an aunt. The fact that her captain doubts their loyalty and trust, when Lottie would not be where she is if she didn't fully trust her, hurts her very much, and she desperately tries to end the fighting between them.

When they find a way to exit the mountain, Lottie tries to stall for time for a bit, because she is scared of the crew separating once they arrive in Glaceria, and her being abandoned again. She has no idea what she is going to do should she get to Glaceria. Beryl promises her that she will always have a home with her, and Lottie wants to believe her, but is scared that she could never be anything else but a criminal.

In the antimagic field around Glaceria, she suddenly looses her connection to her ghosts, which has never happened before in her life and makes her panic. To connect to at least one of them in some way, she reads Kipp's notes that they wrote during their internship. In the storm, she is finally able to grab a ghost again, and can hold the Beguiler's hand, which calms her down a bit.

In the storm, Remeny turns around so that Lottie doesn't have to be alone, and shields her with her body from the attacks of the ice statues, sacrificing herself before Lottie dies from the effects of the ice storms in her arms. They both become ghosts, and Lottie can feel her ghosts around her again, no longer as haunters, but as equals. They tell her that they are not a result of the eclipse, or her parents wrongdoings, but that they actually saved her from what would have happened during her birth. Their purpose was to help her, and they did so all her life as best as they could. The other ghosts, including Kipp, decide to move on after saying a proper goodbye, but Lottie and Remeny decide together that they want to see the world, just for the sake of seeing it, and have ghost adventures together.

The first thing Lottie does as a ghost is look at her own body, because in death, she has colour again. She is a pale girl, with mousy brown hair and red blood. It satisfies her to see herself like that, in human colours. After that, Remeny and her first check on Kix's body, and then on Beryl, who is the only one who made it. Lottie is very proud of Beryl, and happy that she got to safety.

Trivia[]

  • Haley was given a range of 5-7 for Lottie's level and chose level 6.
  • She does unusually well on saving throws for a character played by Haley.
  • There were some mistakes made about the mechanics of Lottie's ghosts during Arc 6. During the first two episodes, Lottie summoned and activated their effect all in a bonus action, and during the whole Arc, Lottie had 12 ghostly effects, when she should have had only 8 (since they are connected to her bardic inspiration die).
  • She used to take dreamlily with Kipp.
  • Lottie even bleeds grey.
